How to check your Unifi Fibre Wifi network for unwelcomed device and block them
Start a New Discussion. Looks like it is happening again. Youtube is being blocked by the router. Anyone know why this might be happening? The IP Addresses are dynamic. I switched like I did the last time to static back to dynamic, reset the router a couple of times and still Youtube is being blocked and adobe flash player isn't working on a Facebook game like before.
Not sure why this started letting Youtube through and now is blocking it again. I do have it on a timer to turn off at night. When I bypass the router, I can get through. When I assign 8. If you assign google dns, 8. But why would my last router have worked just fine and if it is automatically looking for a DNS server, it was always picking the one that my router was having an issue with? I can experiment more with automatic DNS selection and see what happens. That implies it had worked at some point?
Was this on the present router or an old router that it happened at one point? Some countries might block content and the ISP's adhere to those rules think China for instance.
Other might not but web sites could.Active directory forest trust firewall ports
First think I'd do is look at the DNS settings in the router. Double check by seeing who 'owns' the DNS server and where it is. When I said, it happened again, I was referring to the present router. The old Belkin router had no issues with this.I am in the process of rolling out unifi ap's. I am going from individual ap's with no central management to this system. I am finding devices that should not be on our staff only SSID.
I am fine if those devices are on the public SSID that i have setup because I can segment them away via the public security. I just want to ban them from our staff only SSID's. One thing you might want to consider is the guest portal for getting the guest network users to agree to the terms of service. The potential snag there is that if you are using different vlans as we are for guests, they won't be able to see the portal unless you have one running on the guest network or route the initial traffic for the portal.
Others have hosted the Unifi controller software on a VM in the cloud to solve this problem. If you have the bandwidth and no legal concerns about open wiki, then you probably don't need the portal and the complexity.
The stuff works great for the price. I would select the correct unit for your application and your good. There's no secrets on this stuff.
Good Luck! I haven't tried, but I imagine it would ban them from both. If your private key is known and it sounds like it is I would also be inclined to change the key and not hand it out to staff.
Yes I am implementing a new ssid but until I get it rolled out everywhere I am doing both new and old ssid's. Yes single controller. All the sites are connected by fiber or use VPN's to connect in. None of the sites are huge but it will be nice to some day have a better handle on what's on my network. Unifi Version 3 will be a great thing for you mid April when it comes out!
It adds some great feature for multi site management. Wouldn't this be a perfect spot to use network access control? Have user login with their credentials when they attempt to add a device to the network.
That way you can see who is adding what devices. I've setup a logging Radius server in the past that allows me to see who logged in with what device. I'm really looking forward to v 3.Tactical weapon parts
We're doing a test deployment next week on one of our sites, and this new version looks really cool. Unifi Version 3 works with all existing AP's in the Unifi line.

The blocks themselves are issued by the government and issued to all ISPs, fortunately there are a couple of ways to bypass these internet blocks which amount to censorship, and it depends on what kind of mechanism your ISP uses to block it.
A Domain Name Server DNS is a server that works in a similar fashion to a phone directory— you know that big book of phone numbers the telephone company use to give out. So imagine the internet was like your phone network, and every website you wanted to call had a phone number, you may know the websites name like www.
A DNS would act as a phone directory, just that in a phone directory you look up a phone number based on a persons name, in a DNS you look up an IP address based on a websites name.
Essentially TM can redact a persons name out of the telephone directory so that no one looking for that person will be able to connect to them. Just use another DNS server. In the analogy before, Unifi is trying to block your access by preventing you from looking up phone number in phone directories Unifi has provided to you. The answer: nothing. You can read up more here. This would easily by pass any DNS block your Internet service provider has set in place, but what if your ISP actually has a more sophisticated blocking mechanism.
A DNS block is real kiddie stuff when it comes to online censorship and there should be other means to block users from accessing content and other means for users to bypass those blocking mechanisms. In a VPN setup, what actually happens is that you setup a connection to a private server and then use that server as a proxy for all your connections. While you may not be starting the next revolution or Arab Spring, sometimes it feels a bit uncomfortable especially in Malaysia to know that your ISP could potentially be spying on your personal data, and a good VPN is a solid way to prevent that from happening.
So how do you setup a VPN. On the website, the company claims that:. More importantly, I use them as well. For now, happy hunting. There are also some websites that function as proxies. Like a binocular into another website. Sure the display format doesnt look pretty, but fastest for me!
